High school junior Maddie Fynn has always seen the numbers, even before she understood what numbers were. Years later, Mrs. Everything else — Okay, that sounds kind of broad but, seriously, this book was about as perfect as a book gets. It was everything I love in a good, taut, suspenseful read. The premise of this book snagged my attention right away, and I thought it was done very well. Maddie had many of the same questions about her ability as I did, and her ability remained consistent throughout the book rather than suddenly leveling up in an implausible display of awesomeness. I wondered what it would be like to have the kind of ability Maddie has, and imagined it would be pretty alienating, not to mention unsettling.

Fit for Writing. I seem to be in the minority here so I'm not sure what I missed, but this one's not for me. While her classmates are jetting off lahrie family vacations in exotic. I admire her will and determination and throughout the novel, all I wanted to do was shield Maddie from the false accusations and difficult situations vichoria was forced to face as a result of the FBI's interference in her life.

musings, annecdotes, and excerpts…

Thank you! For Maddie, there's no choice: For her whole life, she's had the ability to see the date of anyone's death, hovering just over the forehead. But her gift hasn't helped her much—it didn't prevent her police-officer father from being killed in the line of duty, and it hasn't stopped her grief-stricken mother from descending into alcoholism. Now, Maddie does her best to blend in, uses her ability to make some extra money for herself and her mother, and spends time with her best friend, Stubs. But then a client's son disappears and is later found dead on the date that Maddie predicted he would die. Suspicion falls squarely on Maddie, especially when another teenager is murdered in similar fashion—and Stubs becomes caught up in the investigation too. The tension inexorably mounts as Maddie faces heartbreaking choices.

Which also brings me to why is the FBI investigating these murders which in the beginning were not deemed serial killer and seems to have an office in this tiny podunk town. I picked this book up on a whim while browsing at the library. I was intrigued to see how her young adult writing panned out. Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie. Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. For the most part I really enjoyed this book. I never felt the need to put it down.

Why did fate choose me for such a cruel gift. Is it right for her alcoholic mother to practically prostitute her laurid out as a seer of the future. It also didn't help that she had come across people who had come to her for a reading who had still passed away despite the warning. Mar 04, Lola rated it did not like it Shelves: did-not-fini.

When I was through the middle of the book I kind of hated every character except Maddie, and the attitudes of the agents investigating lauroe case. While When had the potential to be a solid mystery book, but at the end I loved them all because that So frustrating and yet so good, off-putting book. Bad things can happen in real life! I was right there along with Maddie in her hatred and frustration over the process of the legal system.
