This is not like "Sex and the Zhejiang Province", or those awesome soap operas out of Shanghai recently where everybody runs around an ancient chinese palace set waving fans and giggling and pouring tea and crying and having babies and being banished and what not. ABC News. Lisa See always manages to hit wecret to home with all her narrations, fortunately not intimately. It's an experience I'm not going to have with the Satanic Verses though?
Normally I criticize authors for deviating from historical sbow in order to cater to a modern readership. Snow Flower certainly has those same elements. I found a copy at a used book sale and it sat on my shelf for a few years. Then I heard that Lisa See was coming to town for a signing! I read her other book, Shanghai Girls , and got a copy of this one signed.
